Fupre Establishes Centre For Sustainable Development

The Federal University of Petroleum Resource, Effurun, Delta State, has established a centre for sustainable development.

The centre will be for programmes, training and research on sustainable development. Also, it is a special purpose vehicle for advancing and implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union Sustainable Development Agenda 2063 in Nigeria and the sub-region. 

This centre is established in partnership with Eziodu Initiative for Sustainable Environmental Development (EISED-NGO) a non-governmental organization (NGO) and an official memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed.

According to Deacon Okezi Odugala, the Executive Director, EISED-NGO, the establishment is an opportunity for partnership among stakeholders in civil society, government and private sector to intentionally and deliberately partner in redressing the issues of unsustainable development bedevilling the country by implementing all the goals of SDGs and Agenda 2063 through sustainable academic trainings, research and innovative technological skills.

He commended the federal government for establishing FUPRE and the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rim-Rukeh Akpofure and management team for the passion, focus and commitment in making the university a hub of academic excellence.

Odugala called on stakeholders to partners with the university and the newly establish centre for sustainable development for more positive impacts on the society, adding that a formal unveiling of the centre and start up of training programmes would soon be made public.

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, is a specialized university established by an act of the Nigerian parliament to train manpower for the oil and gas industry and carry out research and innovation.

In same vein, Eised-NGO Director/Secretary Mr Harrison Agboro reiterated that the programmes of the centre would be tailored to accommodate everyone, both the educated and uneducated, especially in the areas of skills development that to enhance sustainable development practices.
