Following complains from residents in Uvwie Local Government Area about the tight office space used for voters’ registration excise in Ovie Palace Road, a subsidiary unit has been opened in Agric Junction, the entrance to the local government secretariat.
Though the office was formerly in the local government secretariat, but was moved to Ovie Palace Road, few years ago, due to the enormous crowd it attract, and other violence that arise from it, as a result of some people trying to out smart others.
While speaking to the personel in charge of the new centre who refused to mention his name, he stated: ‘This centre is majorly open to register new eligible voter’s while the main office sort out other issues like change of voting centre, verification of polling centre, to mention but the few.”
The centre which had a hand full of people quietly seated, waiting for their turn, expressed satisfaction over the newly created centre.
They explained that they often get discouraged whenever they were at the Ovie Palace INEC office to register, due to the large crowd it pulls.
One Esther said: “I have concluded not to register before because of the stress I usually experience due to large crowd in their head office. However, seeing that a subsidiary centre has been opened, is a welcome idea. As you can see, I am already here to register and I urge other residents in Uvwie who have not, to do so.”
The registration which was smoothly going on as at the time of this report, saw men, women and young adults waiting patiently to get registered.
It was also revealed that only the two centres (Ovie Palace and Agric Junction Units) that are currently in operation in the local government.
