Delta State Governor and the Vice Presidential Candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023: general elections, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has said that infrastructural development remains one of the cardinal points of the SMART agenda of his administration.
Governor Okowa stated this during the 50th Anniversary of the Old Students’ Association of Emore Grammar School, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area.
The Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu commended the Old Students of the school for deeming it fit to organise the event considering the harsh economic situation in the country.
Senator Okowa specifically lauded the effort of Chief Eta Enahoro for building the multi-purpose hall at Emore Grammar School, noting that the hall would provide a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
He appealed to the leaders of the community to ensure that the project was protected at all times, adding that the principal, staff and students of Emore Grammar School should justify the kind gesture of the donor by ensuring its judicious use and maintenance.
Earlier, the President of Emore Grammar School Old Students’ Association, Mr. Emmanuel Omohefe said that the school was founded on September 8, 1972, adding that it began as Saint Barnabas Grammar School with just 84 students.
Mr. Omohefe hinted that the school competed favourably then with the older schools in academics, sports, quiz and debates and often won medals, stressing that the relay team comprising boys and girls of the school also excelled well while also recalling how the school represented Isoko Division during the Cultural Dance Fiesta at Ogwashi-Uku where they emerged champion.
He applauded the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for upgrading the school to the status of a model school especially the construction of 24 classroom edifices that was inaugurated by the Governor on April 29, 2021.
The President also appreciated the commitment and efforts of all Old Students of the school and other stakeholders in the development of the school since inception.
The Chairman of the occasion and immediate past Commissioner for Higher Education,, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare who is also one of the old students of the school said that Emore Grammar School had produced several individuals that were impacting on the society.
Prof. Muoboghare said that Emore Grammar School was the pride of educational development in the society.
The Highlight of the ceremony was the cutting of the 50th anniversary cake and the commissioning of the multipurpose hall by the Governor.
