June 5th every year is set aside by the United Nations to celebrate World Environment Day. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day #OnlyOneEarth calls for collective transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet, our common home.
In a bid to achieving the theme for this year, all hands must be on deck. As an individual, we must clean our environment on a daily and regular basis, refraining from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on unauthorized places, pouring dirt on drainage and gutter. Opening our suck away tank to flow into the street especially when it is raining is a barbaric attitude that should be stopped
Cooking with unhealthy fuel like adulterated kerosene, firewood,, charcoal, bush burning and burning of waste as a means of waste disposal is inimical to the environment The turning on of unused electric light, using bulb with high watts, as well as appliances that are not in use are capable of contributing to global warming
In order to collectively protect the environment, we must enlighten our people from the urban to rural level. The civil society organization (CSOs), Ministry of Information and other media outfit must endeavor to embark on aggressive awareness creation of how to protect the environment
