Amid a deteriorating economy and unfriendly business environment, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises operating in Uvwie have again cried out to the State Government to intervene in the alleged unreasonable tax demands of the Uvwie Local Government Council.

Speaking to newsmen today at the Ugbolokposo axis of Effurun, a Point Of Sale, POS operator Mrs Cynthia Ijeh narrated how she was allegedly physically manhandled by a female official of the revenue unit of the council (names withheld) who threw her some punches on account of an altercation she had with the officials who she said came into her shop in what she termed a “commando style”.

In their respective comments on the alleged constant harassment by revenue officials of the local government, small business owners in Ugbolokposo, Okoribi, Udin College areas, as well as those operating around Effurun Market appealed to the state government to harmonize the various levies.

They said that the different outrageous levies imposed by the Uvwie Local Government Council was capable of bankrupting their businesses, which they said was their only source of livelihood.
