Ughelli North Flags Off Campaign On Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets

The Ughelli North Local Government yesterday, 2nd June, 2022, officially flagged off campaign for the distribution of Insecticide Treated Net ITN, a programme that is billed to take place simultaneously in all the 25 local government areas of the state. 

Speaking during the flag off ceremony held at the council Hall, the Chairman, Chief Godwin Adode, represented by the Secretary to the local government, Hon. Oderhohwo underscore the importance of the mosquito treated net in eradicating malaria from the local government area. 

He urged all residents to ensure that they get the mosquito treated net and also make good use of it, just as he added that trained supervisors and distributors would move from house to house to distribute the nets to all household in the local government area.

The wife of the chairman, Chief Mrs Evelyn Adode who happened to be the Net Advocate in the local government area, in her address said she would use every means within her position to support the distribution of the net to all household in the area. 

She noted that malaria, which is preventable had become a major source of various ailments that had negatively impacted humanity, causing absenteeism in places of work and sometimes untimely death.

She commended the governor of Delta State Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the federal government and all the donor agencies for providing funds to produce the net, just as she urged the distributors and supervisors to be diligent in the distribution of the mosquito treated net.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary to the Ughelli North Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Johnson Uyovwiesepha said the distribution of the net to all household was one of the social responsibilities of government to its citizens. 

Dr Uyovwiesepha said malaria was one of the killer diseases that had claimed more lives, saying that through the use of the Insecticide Treated Net it could be prevented.

Highlight of the ceremony was the demonstration of the usage and care of the net by Mr Daniel Atete and the decoration of the Net Advocate, Chief Mrs Evelyn Adode by the Role Back Malaria focal person, Mrs Lizzy Uzoh.
