The Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has ask the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to stop Banks from selling recharge cards.
According to Okupe the business is worth about N10 Billion per day and can provide jobs for 5m youths nationwide and reduce unemployment. Banks should not be in the retail business where they strangulate small individual traders. Government must protect MSMEs
Even under “Capitalism”
Government still has the responsibility to protect the weak in the society against the strong and mighty. Secondly the banking licence does not cover Retail business. Any society that is not regulated is close to a jungle where people struggle to survive he said.
